Description

Thunderbolt has a way of making everyone feel like they’re his favorite person. Whether he’s heading out on the trails, relaxing after a day of adventure, or simply enjoying a few scratches, he’s happiest when he’s by your side. Over the past 67 days, Thunderbolt has become a favorite among our staff and volunteers. He’s a Miles & Mutts rockstar who absolutely loves getting out to explore Alaska’s trails. Those adventures have not only become the highlight of his week, but they’ve also helped him on his journey to a healthier weight. Even after a long hike, though, Thunderbolt is more than content to settle in beside you on the couch. His previous family described him as a lovable couch potato, and we’d have to agree! Thunderbolt has wonderful manners that make him an easy companion. He’s potty trained, crate trained, knows the cues sit, down, and come. He may get a little excited at the beginning of a walk, but once those happy wiggles are out, he settles in beautifully. He’s also one of the rare dogs who doesn’t mind baths or grooming! Thunderbolt is a social guy who enjoys meeting new people. While he can be a little more thoughtful about introductions in a home setting, here at the shelter he’s consistently been friendly and welcoming with both staff and visitors. He’s formed so many friendships during his stay that it’s impossible not to fall for his easygoing personality. When it comes to other dogs, Thunderbolt continues to impress us. He recently participated in a meet-and-greet with a Chihuahua and handled the interaction wonderfully. Even with plenty of barking, Thunderbolt remained relaxed, greeted politely, and was perfectly happy to move on and sniff around. He has previously lived with other dogs and seems to do best with companions who match his calm, respectful demeanor. As always, we’re happy to arrange a dog meet-and-greet before adoption. Thunderbolt would do best in a home without small animals, as he may be inclined to chase them. The hardest part about Thunderbolt’s story is that he’s still here. While he greets each day with his signature smile and wagging tail, shelter life is beginning to wear on him. We know there’s a family out there who will see what we see every day—a loyal, gentle companion with so much love left to give.
