Description

Meet PhoebeLocation: Brenham, TXDOB: 5/29/2023Phoebe's story hasn't been an easy one, but you would never know it by the love she has to give. She was found severely malnourished—just skin and bones—and covered in ticks and fleas. The severe infestation caused parasites, muscle weakness, and neurological issues. Since being rescued, she has been treated for her parasites, completed heartworm treatment, and is slowly gaining weight and strength every day.Despite everything she's been through, Phoebe has the sweetest, gentlest personality. She simply wants to make her people happy and never be a bother. She is incredibly affectionate, eager to please, and has a heart full of love.PersonalityPhoebe is the definition of a couch potato... even though she hasn't officially discovered the couch yet! She loves nothing more than curling up on a soft bed for a long nap and would likely make an excellent cuddle buddy. She sleeps peacefully through the night and happily spends much of the day snoozing on one of her dog beds. She has exceptional house manners and is completely trustworthy with free roam of the home. She doesn't chew, get into things, or wander far from her favorite resting spot. When she isn't napping, she's usually ready for a meal or a trip outside. One of Phoebe's sweetest habits is her happy little dance. When she's excited to go outside, she prances in place on her bed. After going potty, she celebrates with another joyful dance around the yard because she's so proud of herself. It's impossible not to smile watching her excitement.Phoebe is also incredibly smart. She quickly learned to ring bells at the door when she wants to go outside and easily mastered using a doggy door. She absolutely adores belly rubs and has started offering her paw for handshakes. She'll even lift her back leg to ask for more scratches.House Training & Daily LifeCompletely house-trainedUses a doggy door independentlyRings bells to ask to go outsideFree roam in the homeCan be left alone for up to five hours without any issuesRarely barksTravels wonderfully in the carPatient for nail trims, ear cleaning, and baths, especially when they're treated like a spa dayActivity LevelPhoebe is currently more of a sleepy companion than an active dog, but much of that is because she's still recovering physically. As her strength improves, she will likely enjoy leisurely walks and spending more time exploring. She loves to run and clearly wants to play, but she hasn't quite figured out toys yet. At the moment, they mostly serve as very comfortable pillows. With continued confidence and strength, she's expected to discover just how much fun playtime can be.Other Animals & ChildrenPhoebe has shown herself to be gentle and accepting with everyone she's met.Wonderful with children and patient with affectionate attention.Comfortable around cats.Calm around chickens, happily ignoring them even when they wander around her while she naps.Although she hasn't been introduced to other dogs yet, she appears to have a naturally submissive personality and would likely do well with patient introductions. A calm, confident canine companion may even help build her confidence. She has absolutely no food aggression.Phoebe is slightly more reserved with men at first but warms up with kindness and patience.Medical & Special NeedsPhoebe is still recovering from the neglect she experienced before rescue. She has mild neurological deficits that give her an adorable wobbly walk. She can walk and even run, but smooth flooring such as tile or hardwood can be challenging because her feet sometimes slip. Rugs or carpet help her feel much more secure. When she urinates, her front legs occasionally buckle, causing her chest to lower toward the ground. Gentle support under her chest helps her stay balanced, and continued weight gain and strengthening may improve this over time. She can navigate a few steps but may struggle with a full flight of stairs.Additional medical information:Recovering well following heartworm treatment and may need follow-up testing.Previously treated for parasites.Needs to be spayed.Phoebe's Ideal HomePhoebe deserves a family that will cherish her gentle spirit and continue helping her build strength and confidence. Her ideal home would include:Carpet or plenty of area rugs to help prevent slipping.A yard where she can safely run and continue building muscle.Someone willing to lend a helping hand if she loses her balance.Plenty of love, praise, patience, and belly rubs.A Final NotePhoebe has already overcome more than most dogs ever should. From a starving, neglected little girl who struggled just to stand, she has blossomed into a happy, affectionate companion with the sweetest soul. She celebrates every potty break with a joyful dance, loves gentle affection, and asks for very little in return. She may wobble when she walks, but she never lets it dim her spirit. Phoebe is looking for a family that will see past her imperfections and recognize the incredible, loving dog she truly is. Her forever family won't just be giving her a home—they'll gain one of the sweetest, most grateful companions imaginable.=======To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match!
