Location: Swarthmore, PA   Ladybug is a senior girl, estimated to be at least 8 years old, though we suspect she may be older. This sweet, gentle soul has come such a long way in foster care and is now ready to find a quiet, loving home where she can spend her golden years feeling safe, secure, and cherished.   When Ladybug first arrived in foster care, her crate was her entire world. If something startled her, she would immediately retreat to the safety of her little sanctuary. Today, she spends most of her time out and about, happily lounging around the house, relaxing on the deck, or quietly exploring the yard. Loud or unexpected noises can still make her seek out a safe space, but she is much easier to reassure now and has learned that she doesn't always need to hide when something surprises her.   Ladybug is an independent girl who truly enjoys doing her own thing. She doesn't need constant attention or want to be glued to your side all day. She's perfectly content to relax nearby and simply enjoy your company. When she wants affection, a snack, or needs something, she'll come find you. She's learned that it's okay to ask for what she wants, and watching her become comfortable enough to do that has been one of the sweetest parts of her journey.   And speaking of affection, Ladybug has made some wonderful progress there, too! She enjoys being petted and will now even allow belly rubs — a pretty special milestone for a girl who once found the world so intimidating.   Ladybug is house-trained and crate-trained and would love a securely fenced yard where she can wander in and out at her own pace. In fact, her idea of a perfect day is pretty simple: leisurely wandering around the yard, stretching out in the green grass, soaking up the sunshine, taking a long nap, and getting plenty of pets from her people. She's not looking for long walks, busy adventures, or an action-packed lifestyle. She's looking for the good life.   Mealtime can still be a bit of a challenge because Ladybug is a very picky eater. She also gains confidence from watching her foster brother and will sometimes take her cues from him, deciding it's safe to eat once he gets started. It's just another example of how much she appreciates having a calm, reassuring canine friend around.   Ladybug has also made wonderful progress with other dogs and is now much more comfortable around most of them. She does best with respectful, easygoing dogs who understand personal space and share her laid-back outlook on life. She would not be a good match for a pushy, overbearing, overly energetic dog who is constantly in her face.   She's made progress with men as well and is now comfortable around most men, though she is more comfortable around women. Because of this, a female adopter would still be her ideal match.   Ladybug also does okay around children. Because she is a sensitive girl who can still be startled by loud or unexpected activity, she would do best with calm, respectful children who understand that she needs her own space and time to feel comfortable. She isn't looking for a chaotic or overly busy household, but older or gentle children who can give her space and interact with her calmly could be a good fit.   Ladybug thrives when life is predictable and peaceful and does best with people who understand that trust is earned through patience, kindness, and consistency. She's not looking for a bustling household — she wants a peaceful place where she can relax and simply be herself.   Ladybug does have a medical procedure coming up. She is scheduled to have a couple of mammary tumors removed in September. Because she will need time to recover and heal after surgery, she will not be available for adoption until she has been cleared and is feeling fully recovered. Her foster family will be giving her all the love, care, and rest she needs during this time.   Ladybug's journey has been one of learning. She knows now that the world can be a safe place. Every day she becomes a little more confident, a little more comfortable, and a little more willing to trust. She may never be the dog who rushes up to every stranger or wants to be the center of attention, but she has so much love to give in her own quiet way.   She isn't looking for excitement or adventure. She's looking for a peaceful retirement, a secure yard, a soft place to nap in the sunshine, a person who will give her plenty of pets, and someone who will love her exactly as she is.   In return, you'll get a gentle, loyal companion who has spent her life learning to trust — and who is finally ready to enjoy all the simple, beautiful things she's discovered she loves.
