General info
Description
This 1-year-old, neutered hound mix is a handsome, scent-driven guy who already knows âsitâ and âshake a paw,â and he takes treats politely. Heâs looking for an adopter who understands hound traits as this guy follows his nose right to the food. He would do best with structure and an adult only home. Due to handling sensitivities and overly loving his food, he isnât a match for children, and he may do best as the only dogâthough he does love other dogs specifically ones that are slightly smaller than him, he plays very nice with the dogs here he has met. His ideal home will include daily leash walks, a securely fenced backyard, and plenty of time to build a strong bond; heâs not suitable for off-leash parks as he continues working on recall. Heâll benefit greatly from an owner committed to implementing a food program at home (interactive bowls and toys, hand feeding, and trade-ups) and enrolling in a required basic manners class and/or private behaviour training to help him develop confidence, clarity, and good habits. This boy has stole the hearts of everyone here and is a favourite for the dog walkers as well. He just needs his new home to find him so he can start to live the best life! Dash came into us severely underweight (at the end of April), so he had to be put on a slow refeeding diet, so we wouldn't overwhelm his body. We have been doing period bloodwork and looking at his diagnostics and slowly increasing his feeding portions in addition to supplementing him with vitamin b injections. He was initially anemic( low blood cells) but this is slowly improving,so we now placing him for adoption. His new owners will need to do some future diagnostics at their own vet, in a few months, just to make sure, he is still progressing well. He still needs to gain additional weight but this will be a gradual process. He is much improved from when he came into us initially but he is on his healing journey. He is eating a high fibre diet and would benefit from remaining on this or something similar. Or a dog savvy home with another medium sized dog.
