Description

SUNNY KEEPS SMILING FOR EVERYBODY, BUT NOBODY HAS CHOSEN HER SHE CAME IN FULL OF SUNSHINE, AND THE SHELTER IS STARTING TO DIM HER LIGHT Y’all, this one hurts. There is something especially heartbreaking about a happy dog who keeps giving the best pieces of herself to everybody she meets, only to watch them walk away while she remains behind the same kennel door.Sunshine, also known as Sunny, is only 1 year old and weighs about 36 pounds. She came to us as a stray, and when nobody came to take her home, she did not become bitter or stop loving people.Bless her heart, she just kept smiling.Sunny greets people with a wagging tail and the biggest grin. She leans into attention like she has been waiting all day for somebody to stop and notice her. To Sunny, every person might be the one who finally kneels beside her and says, “Come on, sweet girl. You’re going home.”But that moment still has not come.Sunny has so many of the things families tell us they are looking for. She is young, medium-sized, loving, friendly, and wonderful on a leash. She absolutely adores children and has that happy, gentle spirit that makes you picture her growing up right in the middle of a family. She should be following children through the house, waiting beneath the supper table for a crumb to fall, and curling up beside her people when the day is done.Instead, Sunny is growing up inside a shelter.Every evening, the people she loves go home, the lights go down, and Sunny stays behind. No matter how much we love her, we cannot give her a quiet bedroom, a favorite place on the couch, or the comfort of knowing she will never be left again. When Sunny first arrived, she loved other dogs. We could let her play with just about anybody, and she was always happy to make another friend. Now she has started reacting when other dogs come into the shelter. We do not know exactly what has changed inside our girl. We only know that the constant barking, stress, and time spent behind a kennel door are beginning to wear her down. The shelter is getting into her head, and we are watching it happen a little more every day. That is not who Sunny came to us as.She came to us playful, openhearted, and ready to love everybody. That sweet girl is still there. We see her when a child comes near. We see her when the leash comes out. We see her in that big smile and the way her whole body seems to brighten when somebody gives her attention. Her recent reactions do not erase all the good inside her. They show us how badly she needs to leave this environment before the stress settles any deeper.Any introduction to another dog will need to be slow and careful, but Sunny deserves the chance to decompress somewhere peaceful. She deserves to learn that she does not have to stay on edge and that she can finally close her eyes without a kennel full of noise surrounding her.She is not asking for anything fancy.Sunny just needs someone who will look past what the shelter is doing to her and remember the dog she has always been. A sweet girl who loves children. A wonderful leash walker. A smiling little shadow who wants nothing more than to belong to somebody.Lord knows we are trying to hold on to her sunshine, but a shelter kennel is no place for a young girl to spend her life.Sunny is already microchipped, and her adoption includes a voucher for a Fi GPS tracker. Once she finally has a family, we want to help make sure she never has to be lost or alone again. Please do not wait until more of her light is gone.Come meet Sunny. Sit with her, walk with her, and let her show you the sweet girl who is still underneath all that shelter stress. If you cannot adopt her, please share her. Somewhere out there is a family who would love everything about Sunny. They just have not seen her yet.
