To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: approx. 1 year old (as of 6/12/26) Weight: approx. 12 pounds (as of 6/12/26) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Mintosh (you can call her Tosha!) This little goofball is 12 pounds of love, laughs and pure joy—a great personality with good looks to match! This energetic Shiba Inu and Rat Terrier Mix is a social butterfly who has won over the adults, kids, cats and dogs she’s met in her foster home. Tosha lives for yard time, especially with a playmate who can rough ’n’ tumble as much as she does! After a good play session, she’ll settle right into your lap for a snooze on the couch. Tosha is already a fantastic house guest who is clean and quiet in her crate and does well in the car. She is looking for a patient, loving family to help her complete her house training (she’s almost there!) and continue working on her leash skills. Because she has a spunky play style, her ideal four-legged sibling should be able to keep up and match her energy. We also encourage obedience training and socializing for all of our dogs to help them build confidence and become the best companions they can be! If you’ve been searching for a fur-ever friend who is smart, sweet and cute as can be, Tosha is ready to meet you! Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
