Not to brag, but I’m a handsome black-and-tan mini dachshund. I’m 10 months old, full of energy, and always ready for my next adventure—whether Foster Mom approves of it or not. About five weeks ago, my two friends and I came to Little Paws. We were all shy and nervous. You see, I never really learned how to be around people, so when I first met Foster Mom, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. Was she trustworthy? Was she hiding treats? The jury was still out. Thankfully, Foster Mom was very patient and let me move at my own pace. It took me about three weeks to work up the courage to join her on the sofa. Now? Well, let’s just say personal space is no longer something I believe in. I also learned how to use a ramp by watching the residents’ dogs. Why figure things out myself when I can copy someone else’s homework? But my all-time favorite word? Treat. The word “treat” has magical powers. It’s the only thing that can convince me to stop exploring and come back inside. The moment I hear it, I transform into an Olympic sprinter and am usually the first one back through the door. Environment I will require a securely fenced yard because I’m lightning-fast, curious, and firmly convinced that the world needs me to investigate it. My combination of speed, youth, and adventurous spirit makes me a bit of a flight risk. I’m still learning house training and leash walking. The leash thing is very new to me, and sometimes I act like it has personally offended me. Foster Mom says I do best with lots of encouragement and reminders that I’m a “Good Boy” whenever I make progress. Pets & People From Foster mom - Ditto is incredibly smart and has blossomed in just a few short weeks. He absolutely loves attention, belly rubs, and ear scratches. In fact, when you stop petting him, he’ll gently grab your hand to let you know you’ve made a terrible mistake and should resume immediately. We’re currently working on replacing the hand-grabbing with polite nudges. Ditto is still negotiating that policy change. I’ve learned a few important words. “Outside” is one of my favorites. The second I hear it, I’m at the door faster than you can say “Where did he go?” I love running around the fenced yard and investigating every leaf, twig, and suspicious blade of grass.
