Meet Hoppy, a 13-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing 18 pounds, and proof that age is just a number. This happy little gentleman still has plenty of pep in his step, a toy basket full of interests, and a heart overflowing with love. Hoppy is the kind of dog who quickly becomes your shadow. He loves being near his people, whether he's following you from room to room, supervising household activities, or curling up nearby for a well-earned nap. While he's certainly mastered the art of relaxation, he's not ready to retire from fun anytime soon. Hoppy enjoys playing with toys, showing off his fetch skills, practicing his tricks, exploring the yard, and going for walks. Once he sheds a few extra pounds and cooler weather arrives, he'll likely be ready for even more adventures. This smart, food-motivated boy already knows sit, stay, come, down, and drop it. He's house trained, walks nicely on leash, and loves opportunities to learn. His foster family describes him as friendly, outgoing, loyal, and incredibly sweet. He's also surprisingly quiet, typically only barking to alert you when someone is at the door or when a loud thunderstorm rolls through. Hoppy thrives on consistency and settles in best when given time to learn a new routine. Like many dogs experiencing change, he can be a little anxious when left alone at first, but he's already making great progress in foster care as his confidence grows. He prefers the freedom to roam the house and isn't a fan of being confined in a crate. While Hoppy hasn't been formally tested with other dogs in our care, he has remained calm and polite during encounters with dogs on walks. His foster family believes he may enjoy having a canine companion around, especially when his people are away. He has not been exposed to children, but his gentle, mellow nature suggests he may do well with respectful older kids who understand that sometimes a senior guy would rather relax than play.  If you're looking for a loyal best friend who wants nothing more than to love his people, play a little fetch, earn a few treats, and spend his golden years by your side, Hoppy may be the perfect match. His foster family describes him as "the bestest boy," and after spending time with him, it's easy to see why. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
